About me

Let me tell you a little about myself first, I am 55 years old and live in Worksop, England. I am married with 3 daughters aged 16, 13 and 11, my wife Sara teaches at the Holy Family Catholic School, and I am a LGV/PCV Driving Instructor working out of Sheffield.

My fitness regime started at a young age, I was a swimmer at county level while at school, I was also quite a good runner, Judo player and gymnast.

At the age of 15 I joined the Army, and was posted to the Junior Leaders Regiment, Royal Engineers, based at Dover. When I reached the age of 18 I joined 9 Ind Parachute Squadron R.E. After my time with 9 Sqn I served with several other “Airborne Units” and finished my Army Service in 1983.

After leaving the Army I was very keen to keep my fitness at a very high standard, I ran my first half marathon while still serving in the forces and pulled in a very reasonable time of 1 hour 23 mins, I then went on to run several full marathons with a best time of 2 hour 38 mins.

In 1985 I became very ill and after 10 months in The Royal Hallamshire Hospital I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

In 1986 I started lifting weights to try and improve my health, starting off only very gently, I gradually progressed to lifting quite heavy weights.

A few years ago I started to lead a much more sedatory life style, and now I weigh in at just over 259lbs. On the 1st January 2011 I weighed in at a massive 292.2lb so I have made quite a good start with my weight loss

This blog is my record of my attempt to rejuvenate myself and lose the weight while increasing my fitness. At the moment I can run 2 mile in 17 mins so I have a base to work from, but my muscle mass had decreased by a massive amount and is now in the region of 34.7%, my BMI is 35.1 making me clinically obese, my body fat is 30.3%. My target weight is 196lb/88.9kg so I still have a long way to go.

With this in mind I am starting a training program based on the “crossfit” method of training, following a Paleo Diet and committing my self to a program of Intermittent Fasting. I will be posting the results in this blog for the whole world to see :)

I will not be posting my workouts on this blog, I have a separate blog where I post my workout sessions if you are interested in following my workout regime, and this is the link to the crossfit blog.
