Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting is something that I am new to and I only started fasting after reading quite a lot of information on the internet about the subject.
When I started crossfit training I also started eating a Paleo Diet, also know as the Primal or Caveman Diet. Now having a family I sometimes find it difficult to stick rigidly to the diet, but most of the time (90-95%) I manage to eat as I should be, the other 5-10% of the time I have to give and eat the best I can, it’s not always easy when eating in a restaurant to stick rigidly to the diet but I do what that I can when I can.
Part of the diet is “Intermittent Fasting” and there is lots of reasons to fast, most of which I am not going to go into, the main reason for this is because the internet is full of people a lot better qualified than me to explain the reasons to fast. For more information on fasting and the Paleo diet read a little from Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson and a blog by Dr Michael R. Eades to name a few.
My experiences with Intermittent Fasting so far are very limited because I am very new to the Paleo Diet and Fasting as a way of living, but since I started living “Paleo” I have lost over 10% of my body weight, I feel so much better in myself and it is also helping me to keep my MS under control a little better.
I started my first fast from 25th until 27th March 2011 by fasting from 9:30 Friday night until 9:30 Sunday morning, a total of 36 hours. I must admit it felt a little strange going without food, especially when everyone else in the house was eating normally, but things went well and the hunger didn’t bother me that much, I just kept myself busy most of the time.
The second fast was a week later and started on Thursday 31 March at 9:00 pm and went through until Sunday morning 3rd April at 10:00 am. This was a little more difficult to complete, I think I started to run before I could walk. To make matters worse, Sara was not that happy with me going 60 hours without food.
This week I have fasted twice going from 10pm on Tuesday 5th April until 9:30am on Thursday 7th April and from 9pm Friday 8th April until 12:30pm on Sunday 10th April. I found this by far easier than fasting for a straight 60 hours and will continue to keep fasting this way for the foreseeable future.
